According to an ancient legend, during the creation of the world a giant chasm split the center of the earth: On one side there were the animals and on the other side was man. The dog, worried at the growing distance between man and the animals, made a giant leap across the opening. He succeeded in bridging the opening, but clung slightly to the border with only his front paws. Man bent down and rescued the dog from the chasm and, since that day, dogs have been at man's side, a faithful and dedicated friend, separate from all the other animals.
