Pumpkin Syrup Dog Recipe
Preparation:
- Preheat oven to 350° F. Pour 1 inch of water into two large shallow baking pans.
- Cut open the pumpkin, discard the stem, and scrape out the seeds and slimy membranes. (Don't peel the skin—it's a good source of fiber for your dog.) Cut the pumpkin into 2-inch pieces and place it in the prepared baking pans. Bake 1 hour, or until the pumpkin is tender.
- Heat honey and enough water to make a light syrup in a small saucepan. Add the raisins and simmer the sauce for 10 minutes. Move the pumpkin to a shallow bowl and pour the sauce over it. You can make about 2 quarts of pumpkin and syrup with this recipe.
Ingredients:
- 2 medium pumpkins
- 2/3 cups honey
- 2/3 cups raisins
Note: This is a tremendous recipe to use up some of the extra pumpkins which are usually so abundant at harvest time. At Halloween, your dog is not able to carve his own pumpkin, so the next best thing to do is to feed him one.
