Oriental Vegetables with Beef Sauce Dog Recipe

Oriental Vegetables with Beef Sauce Dog Recipe

Preparation:

  1. Place beef in a cold skillet and cook over medium heat, breaking up the meat with a wooden spoon until crumbly. Add broth and soy sauce mixture; cook until the gravy is very slightly thickened. Store.
  2. Heat oil in a wok over medium-high heat; add garlic and brown lightly. Add carrots and stir-fry for 4 minutes. Add bok choy and stir-fry for 4 minutes. Add meat sauce, snow peas, and scallions; cook for 2 minutes, coating vegetables methodically with sauce. Serve over rice or kibble. You can make 10 cups of vegetables with this recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups ground beef
  • 2 cups Basic Dog Broth
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch mixed with 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 6 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 minced cloves of garlic
  • 4 carrots cut into ½-inch chunks
  • 4 cups bok Choy or Napa cabbage, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 2 cups snow peas, trimmed and strings removed
  • 6 finely chopped scallions
  • Steamed rice or kibble

Note:
This dish, heaving of protein and fiber and abundant in vitamins A and C, is perfect for the Shar-Pei, the Chinese fighting dog that has become extremely popular among upwardly mobile urbanites. The dog's oversized, wrinkled skin was probably advantageous during the time it was bred for fighting—the numerous folds prevented its adversary from getting a grip and injuring vital blood vessels. Today, on the other hand, the Shar-Pei is carefully bred as a kind— and costly—pet.
