Mixed-Grain Dog Biscuits Recipe

Mixed-Grain Dog Biscuits Recipe

Preparation:

  1. Preheat the oven to 400° F. and butter a large baking sheet.
  2. Sift the flour, cornmeal, milk powder, baking powder, and salt into a mixing bowl. Cut in the shortening. Slowly add the water, stir with a fork, until the mixture forms a soft dough. Add the bulgur and mix well.
  3. Turn the dough out on a lightly floured surface and knead lightly.
  4. Separate the dough in half and roll out one piece into a circle ¼ inch thick. Cut it into 18 wedges with a floured knife and place the wedges on the prepared baking sheet. Repeat the process with the second piece of dough. Bake them for 15 minutes, or until they are lightly browned. You can make 36 biscuits with this recipe.

Ingredients:
2 cups of whole wheat flour
2 cups of cornmeal
1 cup of nonfat dry milk powder
4 teaspoons of baking powder
1 teaspoon of salt
½ cup of cold vegetable shortening
2 cups of water
1 cup of cooked bulgur

Note:
One of the most athletic dogs on record was known as Crumstone Danko, a German shepherd who jumped a wall over eleven feet high in a single bound, as we came to know from The Guinness Book of World Records. These biscuits, which are high in complex carbohydrates, will give your dog a boost, too.
