Marvelous Mexican Bean and Beef Stew Dog Recipe

Marvelous Mexican Bean and Beef Stew Dog Recipe

Preparation:

  1. Boil rice and water in a saucepan, reduce the heat, and simmer the rice, covered, for 45 minutes, or until tender.
  2. Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat; add beef and cook, breaking it up into small pieces with a wooden spoon. Add the onions, pepper, and celery; sauté until the onions are translucent. Add parsley, coriander, chili powder, cumin, beans, and broth; boil. Reduce the heat and simmer the stew, uncovered, for 15 minutes. Add corn and simmer 5 minutes longer.
  3. Tear the tortillas into dog bite-size pieces and stir into stew. Make a bed of rice on a plate or in the dog's bowl, ladle stew on top, and sprinkle with cheese. You can make 4 quarts of stew and rice with this recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of uncooked brown rice
  • 5 cups of water
  • 2 tablespoons of corn oil
  • 2 cups of ground beef
  • 2 chopped onions
  • 2 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 chopped stalk celeries
  • 2 cups of cooked pink beans
  • 2 cups of Basic Dog Broth
  • 4 tablespoons of chopped Italian parsley
  • 1 teaspoon of chopped fresh coriander (cilantro)
  • 2 teaspoons of chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cumin
  • 1 cup of corn kernels
  • Steamed flour tortillas
  • 1 cup of grated Cheddar cheese

Note:
The rice, beans, and tortillas make this dish rich in complex carbohydrates. As a bonus, the beans are a fine source of potassium, essential for the optimum functioning of your pet's nervous system.

Pillbox
Here is a reliable method to get your dog to take pills with enthusiasm: Prepare a small tidbit containing the pill. While you make it, talk to your dog about the terrific treat you are about to serve. Let the dog anticipate—remember Pavlov? As he grows more enthusiastic, offer him the treat and congratulate him after he swallows. Dogs love to eat pills which are camouflaged in:

  • Cheese, including cottage, cream, and ricotta
  • Peanut butter—chunky works well for those clever dogs who manage to eat the goodie and spit out the pill.
  • Cat food—yes, it's okay to let your dog eat cat food, but not for your cat to eat dog food.
  • White bread—the kind that compresses into a ball
