Hush Puppy Corn Recipe
Preparation:
- Preheat the oven to 375° F. and oil a baking sheet.
- Place cornmeal, oil, and salt in a bowl. Bring water to a boil over high heat in a saucepan and pour over cornmeal mixture, stir well. Permit mixture to cool 10 minutes. Form paste into 2-inch patties with your hands. (It helps to moisten your hands with oil or water.)
- Place cones on prepared baking sheet. Bake 30 minutes, or until firm. You can make about 36 biscuits with this recipe.
Ingredients: 4 cups of cornmeal 6 tablespoons of corn oil 1 teaspoon of salt 2 cups of water
Note: Hush puppies are deep-fried biscuits. The name originated around Southern campfires, when biscuits would be tossed to the dogs to keep them quiet. This recipe isn't deep-fried and heavy the way true Southern hush puppies are, but your dog will love these light, easily prepared patties.
