Note:
Some people think the bloodhound's name came from its aristocratic bloodlines, which were kept pure by careful reproduction in medieval monasteries. Others say the name honors the dog's hunting expertise—its highly developed sense of smell that allows it to zero in on wounded prey. The bloodhound is an amazing tracker and has been documented as following a man's scent for over 50 miles. One dog is said to have guided detectives to their suspect after following the man's trail for 138 miles.
