Dog Dessert Recipes

Dogs love sweets, and different from their human counterparts, they don't have to worry a lot about tooth decay. However, too much of a good thing can cause nutritional troubles, so the recipes offered here are for sporadic use, such as a dog birthday, holidays, and for other special dog needs.

It's an old legend that sweets are the cause of worms. But it is true that too much sugar in the diet will spoil a dog's appetite for more nutritious food. An excess of sugar also tends to create a nutritional inequality, since sugar requires many vitamins and nutrients to metabolize. For that reason these desserts are made with very little sugar— although not so little as to cause them to be unpleasant to your dog's sweet tooth—and with the most nutritious ingredients: vegetables, eggs, dairy foods, and grains.

Many dogs love fruit with a passion, so you may slowly introduce small quantities of fresh fruit in their diet: Bananas, pears, apples, grapes, and melons are all well-liked by dogs.
