Dairy Pride Soup Dog Recipe

Preparation:

  1. Place the onions, parsnips, and carrots in a steamer basket and steam, covered, over boiling water for 10 minutes, or until tender. Reserve.
  2. Boil barley and stock in a saucepan over high heat. Reduce the heat and cook the barley, covered, for 30 minutes, or until tender. Transfer the barley and any liquid in the saucepan to a soup kettle. Add the cottage cheese, milk, tamari, and pepper. Bring the mixture just to a simmer, not to a boil; add the steamed vegetables. Simmer for 10 minutes, or until the mixture is heated through and flavors have blended. Serve in a bowl, dusted with paprika. You can make 5 quarts with this recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 4 thinly sliced onions
  • 2 thinly sliced parsnips
  • 2 thinly sliced carrots
  • 1 cup of barley
  • 4 cups of Chicken Stock
  • 2 pounds of cottage cheese
  • 1 cup of com kernels
  • 6 cups of milk
  • 2 tablespoons of tamari sauce
  • 1 teaspoon of freshly ground white pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of paprika

Note:
Barley and cottage cheese are teamed here to supply a thick, soothing, nutritious soup, especially good fed in small amounts to a recovering dog.
