Canine Carbonara Recipe
Preparation:
- Fry bacon over medium heat in a skillet until crisp and brown. Drain the bacon on paper towels and reserve. Throw away bacon fat and wipe out skillet with paper towel.
- Cook ziti according to package instructions in a large kettle. Heat olive oil in skillet over medium-low heat while pasta cooks. Add peas, onions, mushrooms, and anchovies; cook for 10 minutes, stir often.
- Beat eggs in large bowl. Drain the cooked pasta and toss with eggs in a bowl until noodles are completely coated. Add bacon and vegetable-anchovy mixture and toss well. Sprinkle with Parmesan and pepper and serve at once. You can make about 5 quarts of pasta.
Ingredients:
- 2 pounds thickly sliced bacon, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 2 pounds ziti
- 4 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 cup shelled fresh or frozen peas
- 2 onions, thinly sliced
- 1 cup mushrooms cut into halves
- 10 drained anchovy fillets
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup freshly grated Parmesan cheese
- Freshly ground black pepper
Note: This version of carbonara includes anchovies, a delicacy for dogs, who go wild over the fish aroma. You can easily improvise with the contents of this dish by including some of your family's leftovers in the ingredients. Presentation is all, and your dog won't guess he's eating secondhand food.
