Braised Liver Dog Recipe
Preparation:
- Mix the flour with pepper to taste. Dredge liver in it, coating the meat well on all sides.
- Melt the bacon drippings over a moderately high heat in a Dutch oven; add the liver, brown well on all sides. Add the onions, wine, broth, peppercorns, and bay leaves; cover the pan and bring to a simmer. Simmer, covered, for 1 hour, or until tender.
- Cut the liver into bite-size pieces and serve over kibble with sauce. You can make about 2 quarts of liver with this recipe.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of all-purpose flour
- Freshly ground black pepper
- 4 pounds of beef liver, sliced or cut into chunks
- 6 tablespoons of bacon drippings
- 2 finely chopped onions
- 1 cup of dry white wine
- 2 cups of Basic Dog Broth
- 8 black peppercorns
- 2 bay leaves
- Kibble
Note: An excellent recipe for dogs who need to build up their blood—but due to the fact that it is rich in bacon fat, it is not for obese dogs.
