Many new iguana owners are clueless about how much to feed their iguanas. So me books do not address this topic, and pet store help can be terribly vague about this subject.

The problem with addressing the issue ofhow much to feed an iguana is that-like peopleiguanas vary greatly in the amount of food they will consume. Add to this that each iguana will have days when it eats more or less food than normal, and that the amount an individual iguana eats will change with age. Therefore, any recommendations on the amount to feed igs are just that-recommendations. Adjust your quantities by what your individual iguana needs. You should be able to figure out the right amount within the first month to six weeks of owning your scaly friend.

A baby iguana needs somewhere between three and six tablespoons of coarsely chopped food per day. Adjust this upward as the iguana grows until you reach roughly three cups of food for a full-grown adulto

It is better to feed your iguana too much than too little. It's okay ifthere are so me leftovers. If your iguana consumes all of his food in a minute or so, then you probably should be feeding more. Don't forget to look at the overall size of your ig. If he is extremely round and sausage-like, you need to cut back on the food. If he is thin with a bony look, start feeding him more.
